dipsomaniac Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 i am getting some huge shocks when i get out of car and touch any metal. i suppose it would come in handy if my heart was to stop at any time but at the moment it is annoying. can anyone suggest a cure or cause? Quote
NikpV Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 been covered a few times before - touch the metal of the door before you put your foot on the ground - cause - general concensus it the dry weather and friction between clothes and seats. Quote
kawasaki-krazy Posted June 23, 2006 Report Posted June 23, 2006 Yep..........Believe it or not .......its actually YOU thats giving the car a shock, NOT the other way around. The static builds up in your body ( because you're insulated from the 'ground' (earth)) whilst you're sat in the car. Try wearing natural fibres instead of man-made materials and hey presto, no more shocks. KK Quote
MrT Posted June 23, 2006 Report Posted June 23, 2006 Change your shoes from plastic soled. Insulated shoes mean when you touch the ground the charge that would normally pass unoticed into the ground does not and passes through the car to the ground when you touch it. It does not happen with leather soled shoes. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted June 23, 2006 Report Posted June 23, 2006 I wear ESD conductive shoes for work and never get a static shock problem when getting in or out of the car - any car ;-) Quote
dipsomaniac Posted June 23, 2006 Author Report Posted June 23, 2006 off to clarks for a pair of leather soled flip flops. thanks for the replies. thought i would ask the question as someone tried to convince me i had a dodgy earth on the car Quote
